The month has barely started, but the federal government has already implemented what might be one of its most chilling schemes to intrude on the privacy of American citizens to date.
As anyone who has studied the American Revolution can tell you, one of the biggest sources of frustration to the colonists was the British’s refusal to respect their privacy and property rights, with the most egregious example probably being the quartering of redcoats in Americans’ homes against their will. For this, the Founding Fathers rallied their fellow patriots to drive the British out and establish a country that respected their liberty.
Yet some 200 years later, we can only shudder at how far we have drifted from this noble experiment. Instead of a government that respects citizens rights, we have one that treads all over them in ways that would make King George III green with envy.
