The FBI released crime statistics last year showing that no murders occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 – the Sandy Hook Shooting – despite the media reporting that numerous schoolchildren and faculty were killed that December.
Why would the FBI release such a report? Did nobody in the process of publishing this material take notice that they were reporting no deaths for this event?

Gee could this be because you are looking at the wrong crime stats? The FBI page the article refers to is for violent crime….of which Mass Shootings are not categorized as. The actual report you want is, http://leb.fbi.gov/2014/january/active-shooter-events-from-2000-to-2012
The report they are talking about only lists things like this violent crime (murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault). Since mass shootings are not considered to be murder, since murder is the intent to kill specific people, and it’s not non negligent manslaughter which is considered people running someone over with a car by accident, or accidentally shooting someone while cleaning a gun. The FBI looks at crime differently, so you need to see the right report.
