FBI Conducted Raid on Former Trump Adviser’s Home

On July 26, FBI agents descended on Manafort’s Alexandria, Virginia, home in a pre-dawn raid to secure documents and other materials under terms of a search warrant.

The search warrant seems to indicate that investigators may have had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all of the records requested in response to a grand jury subpoena, the Post reported, citing people familiar with the special counsel investigation.”

There are those pesky, unidentified “people familiar with the special counsel investigation” spreading innuendo again.

Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni confirmed news reports of the raid and noted that Manafort has been cooperative throughout the process.

Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well.”

In late March 2016, the Trump campaign brought Manafort on board to spearhead the effort to secure enough delegates to win the Republican presidential nomination.

He stayed on as campaign manager until August 2016 when questions arose regarding his business dealing in The Ukraine. In addition to his work with Republican politicians, Manafort has worked with international clients in eastern Europe.

This past June, Manafort officially registered as a foreign agent for work he did on behalf of a Ukrainian political party from 2012 to 2014.

More recently, he’s been under scrutiny for his participation in the meeting between Donald Trump, Jr., and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had requested both Trump Jr. and Manafort provide documents related to that meeting. An August 2 deadline was set for the provision of the materials.

Committee spokesman George Hartmann said Manafort provided 400 pages on Aug. 2. Two days later, the president’s son handed over 250 pages.”

All the drama around the congressional and Mueller investigations continues to be hyped by the media well beyond its significance.

The drama of the July 26 pre-dawn raid at the Manafort residence points to a contrived effort to make it appear he was engaged in some type of wrongdoing or not cooperating with authorities. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The same holds true for Donald Trump, Jr., whose meeting as a private citizen with a private Russian lawyer would seem to fit the description of a “nothing burger.”

After more than a year of the Russia collusion story, without one shred of evidence being produced, it seems what’s happening might fit the classic definition of a “witch hunt.”
