Today Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed that not only should all Americans pay more taxes, but that they want to pay more. I'm not a big fan of increasing taxes on anyone and I can't recall a time anyone I know told me they wanted to pay more.
During his interview today on Nevada Public Radio, Reid actually said:
“The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress,” Reid continued. “Everybody else, including the rich people, are willing to pay more. They want to pay more.”
It's clear to me that the US government's debt problem is one of spending run out of control. If you examine the numbers you'll see that across the board spending cuts are needed to bring the debt in line and no amount of tax increase can fix this problem.
It's also a bit shocking to get an insight into how leading Democrats like Reid think. They really think we all want to pay more taxes and that it's our duty to happily pay and pay and pay more.
