ESPN’s Wilbon Likens Cowboys Owner to “Slave Owner”

There are a lot of things you could say about Michael Wilbon in the realm of sports; how he persevered in a very competitive industry, how he worked his way up through the ranks as a Black man in a writing career which was, at the time, very White.

Wilbon has taken his career to heights only imagined by many White sports writers…and yet…

Much of what Wilbon has focused on in the many decades he has worked in sports writing has been the drama behind the scenes of the sport he was covering.  While he had built a reputation as, literally, the best in his class as the man who could make the deadline, even winning the coveted spot of Top Sports Columnist by the Society of Professional Journalists, he is still lacking in one very big department that has blocked him from greatness.

Michael Wilbon is a Liberal Democrat.

The sportswriter who put so many others to shame by his prodigious efforts in an otherwise completely White-dominated industry inevitably caved to identity politics and became exactly what all the other mediocre White sportswriters had already become:  a person guided by politics instead of truth.

Recently, in a rant on ESPN while hosting his show, Pardon the Interruption, the sportswriter who lost his soul to the Party of the Jackass, compared Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to a “slave owner!”

An ESPN commentator blasted Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones this week, comparing him to a slave owner for his response to national anthem protests in the National Football League.

“The word that comes to my mind, and I don’t care who doesn’t like me using it, is ‘plantation,’” ESPN commentator Michael Wilbon said Monday. “The players are here to serve me, they will do what I want no matter how much I pay them. They are not equal to me. That’s what this says to me and to mine.”

Jones had threatened to bench players who don’t stand for the national anthem, a reprimand praised by President Trump, who has criticized the football protests.

Jones had previously come out arm-in-arm with his team members last month at the height of Trump’s feud with the NFL.

Wilbon said the action by Jones was “as phony as a $3 bill,” in light of his new condemnation of the national anthem protests.

Plantation?  Seriously?  What plantation owner ever paid a slave millions of dollars?  Hold on!  WHAT PLANTATION OWNER EVER PAID A SLAVE…PERIOD?

You see, this is where the path of Mr. Wilbon has veered from the straight and narrow to the path that is wide:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it.”  Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV)

Michael Wilbon could have been great.  He was certainly on his way.  Yet, he chose to follow the way of the Regressive, the Liberal, the Democrat.

Many who know his background understand that it’s not really his fault; he had a lot of things which, by rights on the surface, should have steered him toward the narrow gate.

Charles Barkley, while certainly not perfect, has seen the trap of the Party of the Jackass and has courageously spoken out against them, revealing the truth about them, as Malcolm X once did, calling any Black person that voted Democrat was a “chump.”  Barkley is miles more respectful about it, but this is one of Wilbon’s close friends.  Didn’t any of the wisdom of Barkley rub off on Wilbon?

Mr. Wilbon’s mother was a school teacher.  By the very definition, being a teacher (and in Chicago, no less), Wilbon was learning all the Liberal lessons that were taught early on in the education system.

Wilbon attended Northwestern University…Liberal, yes…but nonetheless, a good university by and large.  But he graduated from the Medill School of Journalism.  As Brian Schneider of the Daily Caller reports:

Throughout the year, I’ve noticed a similar trend of bias among some Medill professors, whether intentional or not. One of the big points of pride for Medill is bringing in guest speakers who are experts in their fields to speak with us young reporters. But the speakers tend to fall along similar ideological lines. One came from the progressive Truman Project (sponsored by the left-wing Center for American Progress); a speaker from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (the FBI is currently investigating CAIR for having roots in a Hamas-support network); and a Chicago physician who preached about the merits of a single-payer health care system (a liberal viewpoint).

Even more surprising: About 15 percent of the full-time Medill journalism faculty has contributed to Democrats running for political office (including three of my professors), according to a database of campaign contributions dating to 1990 on OpenSecrets.org. Dean John Lavine has contributed about $13,000 to Democrats over those several election cycles, including $4,300 to President Barack Obama since 2004. (To be fair, he did donate $250 to a Virginia Republican). Only one full-time Medill professor contributed exclusively to Republican causes.

As can be seen, even if the Liberalism demonstrated today in the school was not as rampant in the 1970s, the chances are good that the extensive foundation of Leftism was.

Finally, there is the fact that this man, an African-American straight married male (four strikes already against him) managed to get to a pinnacle of his career rarely seen by his White counterparts.  Yet, he has chosen the wider path…the easier path…the path of cowards.

It’s not brave or courageous to call another businessman who is looking after his stock interests and the interests of the entire sports industry as a “slave owner” when the plantation is breeding thousands and thousands of Black millionaires.

If he really wants to go there, however, I will enlighten Mr. Wilbon on a major point of contention.  If he is speaking out on behalf of “slaves” and it is the year 1861, then ABSOLUTELY, he is brave…he is courageous.  Without question.

If he is and it is the year 1861, he is then, by necessity…a REPUBLICAN.  While the Democrats are out lynching Blacks (and White Republicans who happen to be accompanying them to the polls), Wilbon is speaking out as an abolitionist on behalf of those murdered Black and White Republicans in a most horrible and brutal way.

It is not the year 1861.  It is the year 2017.  Blacks are now, predominantly, part of the murderous Jackass Party, they remain in abject poverty, they remain as second- and third-class citizens, they struggle for employment, they struggle for identity (except of course the wealthy sports players) and they STILL…VOTE…DEMOCRAT.

Do you not see the irony here, Mr. Wilbon?

Take the high road, the straight and narrow, buck the trend to be a slave on the Democrat Plantation, and try morality on for size.  Chances are you will then transform into a Woke Republican, much like Barkley, and see the world in a whole new way, with a whole new set of possibilities and opportunities.

That is where greatness lies.
