Donald Trump’s Primary Enemy: The Global Elite

Donald Trump has found a new enemy in his quest for the White House: the global elite.

In a series of economic speeches, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has railed against the forces of globalization, arguing that changes in the economy have betrayed workers and wiped out the middle class.

At the center of the “rigged economy,” Trump argues, are “powerful corporations, media elites and political dynasties” and his likely general election opponent, Hillary Clinton

“Hillary Clinton and her friends in global finance want to scare America into thinking small — and they want to scare the American people out of voting for a better future,” Trump said Tuesday in a speech near Pittsburgh.

“I want you to imagine how much better our future can be if we declare independence from the elites who’ve led us to one financial and foreign policy disaster after another.”

These global elites are not nameless, however. Pat Buchannan is the latest elite that has declared war on Donald Trump.

Conservative commentator and former GOP presidential candidate Pat Buchanan argued this weekend that GOP elites who represent the globalist wing of the party will not attend this year’s convention because Donald Trump’s insurrection against them on trade, immigration, and foreign policy has succeeded.

When host Michael Smerconish mentioned on his Saturday CNN program that the party’s last two Presidents—George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush—and presidential nominees—Mitt Romney and John McCain—will not be attending this year’s convention in Cleveland, Buchanan said the reason the elites and the “leadership of the party and the old leadership of the party is not showing up is because Donald Trump, the nominee, is conducting an insurrection against those individuals and against the policy they produced, on trade, immigration and foreign policy.”

While Buchannan may attempt to hide behind policy as a reason to oppose Trump, Trump has proven himself to be the ultimate conservative on trade and immigration. The only thing that separates the words of Trump and the so-called establishment is that Trump isn’t a lifelong politician — and he actually means what he says.
