Dog Infects Humans With Deadly Plague For The First Time In US History

According to a new report from the CDC, for the first time in US history a dog infected with the potentially deadly pnumonic plague has spread the disease to humans, as reported by ABC news in the video on the next page.

A few factors make this case very odd. First, dogs generally don’t get sick from this plague or if they do it’s only minor – this dog had to be euthanized due to the severity of the symptoms.

Second, a plague itself is very rare occurrence in the US, with only 8 or so cases reported every year, and the pnumonic plague makes up only 3-5% of those cases.
