Deputy Constable Shot 4 Times in Houston Ambush During Routine Traffic Stop

An ambush shooting of a police officer in Harris Country, Texas has left a deputy in critical condition and the suspect on the loose. Here’s the story:

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Alabama near Briley, not far from TSU.

Pct. 7 officials said a female reserve deputy constable made a traffic stop, and the male deputy constable pulled in to offer assistance.

After the traffic stop wrapped up, Clopton was leaning into the reserve deputy’s passenger window to help with the patrol unit’s audio-visual equipment. That’s when a man approached from behind and fired at least six shots, four of which struck the deputy in his back.

Walker said the wounded deputy never saw the attack coming.

“It was virtually an ambush, is what it was,” said Constable Walker.

The man didn’t get way for long, however, as the suspect is now in custody of the local police.

Investigators questioned a man Thursday fitting the description of a gunman who authorities say ambushed a Harris County deputy constable from behind following a traffic stop and gravely injured him.

The man showed up at a nearby fire station following the shooting, Houston police spokesman Kese Smith said. No other information was released about him including what he may have told fire personnel when he appeared.

Luckily, Constable Alden Clopton is expected to recover.

A deputy constable who was shot four times outside of a Houston convenience store is out of surgery and expected to recove

Officials say Harris County Deputy Constable Alden Clopton underwent several hours of surgery early Thursday.

Constable May Walker says Clopton was wearing a protective vest when he was shot Wednesday night in an attack she described as an “ambush.” Clopton was standing next to another deputy constable’s patrol vehicle after assisting with a traffic stop.

Walker says the suspect fired six shots, with one going into the car and one toward the ground.

She says four bullets hit Clopton. Officials earlier said Clopton had a bullet lodged near his heart, plus abdomen wounds.

Walker says Clopton faces a long recovery but should be OK.

Investigators have not announced any arrests, but officials have said they are questioning a person who matches the suspect’s description.

Stories such as these are becoming all too common these days, as tensions grow and cops are demonized. Thankful, it looks as if Alden Clopton will live, but its only a matter of time before the next cop is shot dead without a peep from the mainstream press.
