With discussions of terrorism being derailed by accusations of bigotry and hatred, Democrats in the House of Representatives introduced House Resolution 569 this month. Ostensibly, the bill is merely meant to express the legislature’s condemnation of “violence, bigotry, and hateful rhetoric towards Muslims in the United States.”
However, as with most “symbolic” measures passed in Congress, House Resolution 569 is likely a prelude to a concerted campaign to stifle speech critical of Islam.
In fact, if the resolution gets enough votes on the committee where it has been introduced, it could very well be brought before the rest of the House, which might even take it further and make the resolution, with it’s blatant potential for 1st Amendment violations, legally binding for the entire country and anyone living in it.

We have this debate a lot in the UK, and it is already illegal to “incite racial hatred”. But while I fundamentally disagree with racism, and certainly not with the people who condemn all Muslims, I defend their right to say so. Their views cannot be challenged unless they are heard in the first place. The only problem is that many of these people refuse to listen to any counter arguments. They behave like the extremist of Islam (and Christianity), who refuse to tolerate any point of view that is not in line with their own. For people like that, for people who refuse to allow debate, I do not want to stop their views being promulgated – I just want to shoot them for removing my right to democratic debate! 🙂

Problem is, what you say about Muslims can be said of all the Abrahamic religions – Islam, Judaism and Christian – since they all derive the foundations of their faiths from “the book”. The solution? Do away with the of them – Islam, Judaism and Christian.
But violence, bigotry and hateful rhetoric towards patriotic Americans is ok? o.O
