Debra Messing: Donald Trump “will STRIP you of your rights”

That Hollywood celebrities’ influence on political campaigns is typically well beyond the value of what they bring to the discussion is hard to deny.  And they’re very predictable.  It’s the rare media star indeed who endorses anyone other than Democrats.  So when actress Debra Messing interpreted comments made by country singer Blake Sheldon during an interview with Billboard magazine as an endorsement of Trump, Ms. Messing must have felt obligated to intervene in this national crisis.

So let’s get up speed on this drama.

Debra Messing is one of the many famous names endorsing Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and she made her stance clear Thursday when she called country crooner Blake Shelton into question.

While speaking to Billboard, the country crooner discussed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his tendency to always speak frankly.

But apparently Mr. Sheldon made no such endorsement.

While Shelton has not publicly disclosed who he will be voting for come November, the former Will & Grace star misinterpreted his comments to the magazine as an endorsement. She issued a request to the singer’s leading lady, Gwen Stefani.

However, Ms. Messing must have let her emotions get ahead of her thinking, as Sheldon was quick to deny that he endorsed anyone.

“Hey before this gets going like it always does… I haven’t enforced ANYBODY for president. And I not going to. I don’t do that s***,” he tweeted. “My comment about ‘wish there was another option but there’s not’ is across the board…period. Now go dig up another story.”

At least the story has a happy ending.  Messing apologized for stirring up an issue where there was none.

Messing quickly retracted her remarks, issuing an apology to the Voice judge and deleting her tweet. “Ok- I regret commenting. My passions got the better of me,” she wrote. “Sorry. @gwenstefani @blakeshelton.”

Now, don’t you feel so much better about about the quality of our national debate over who becomes the next president?
