De Blasio Defies Trump Admin, Commits NYC to Paris Agreement

The executive order commits the city to adopting the principles of the Paris climate agreement, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050 and keep any global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

It provides no specifics as to how New York City will contribute to the effort other than creating a plan by September 30 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The mayor’s Office of Sustainability is charged with developing the plan. The order also states the city will work with other U.S. cities, states and foreign countries to meet the agreement’s goals.

In other words, the order does virtually nothing but provide political posturing.

It ignores the central question in the entire climate change debate: what is the optimal global temperature for planet Earth and how is it to be determined? More importantly, who should make that determination?

My money’s on Mother Nature, who’s been doing it for countless centuries. One huge volcanic eruption can do more to influence the atmosphere than the entire history of industrialization.

President Trump totally revealed the Paris agreement for what it is: the greatest arbitrary redistribution of wealth in human history, a theft of gargantuan proportions by globalist elites at the expense of the United States and its people.

Issuing the order gave the New York mayor the opportunity to bloviate on the issue and to display his egomaniacal ambition to raise his national profile.

The actions of President Trump have undermined what we’re doing and what cities and states all over the country are doing, and that means we have to go farther,” de Blasio said. “We have to take matters into our own hands.”

De Blasio’s effort comes on the heels of Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto taking exception to the president’s remark that he was elected to “represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”

Peduto signed a similar executive order, proving once again that there’s nothing Democrats love more than empty gestures.

Not to be outdone, former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced his plan to create a coalition of U.S. states, cities and business leaders to counter the president’s decision. This is following Obama’s call on mayors and national leaders to rise up against the Trump administration.

The New York billionaire has tried to raise his profile on a number of national issues, including gun control, but his latest foray into climate change just underscores his rank hypocrisy as he jets around the world in private planes accompanied by armed bodyguards.

As everyday Americans continue to try to emerge from the economic wasteland called the Obama Years, it’s apparent that the posturing of the De Blasios, Pedutos and Bloombergs of the world won’t even register on their radar screens.
