This IRS cyber attack comes on the heels of the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) cyber attack. That breach which originated in China affected 22 million people —having their social security numbers stolen among other sensitive personal information.
In May, the agency reported that hackers used private information to file fraudulent tax returns, which were then used to collect nearly $50 million.”
Fifty million stolen is almost inconceivable from the IRS. Hopefully, this is the decline of these types of hacker/criminals–the US can’t afford to lose this cyber war.
