The FBI's refusal to prosecute Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information is having far-reaching consequences not just for the nation's security, but the agency itself.
When the bureau first opened it's investigation into the former Secretary of State's private email server, it was hoped that it would be able to act as a counterbalance to pressure from the White House to protect Hillary. As an old, highly-venerated institution within the federal government, it was believed by many that the FBI would be immune to such considerations and reach a fair and just conclusion regarding Hillary's conduct in the matter.
These hopes turned out to be woefully misplaced, however, as director James Comey announced that the Democratic candidate, in spite of incontrovertible evidence that she broke the law, would not be charged earlier this year. Now, the bureau is reaping the harvest of this fallacious verdict.
