Congressman Slaps FBI with Subpoena for Full Report on Hillary’s Emails

Rep. Chaffetz made it clear in his statement that he expected Herring and the bureau to turn over all the information relevant to Clinton’s emails, adding that there is no legal precedent for them to deny the committee’s request. I don’t know if Hillary will be able to wiggle her way out of this one, but I’d definitely like to see her try:

“In his initial remarks, Chaffetz built a good case, explaining why the FBI is completely in the wrong for refusing to allow Congress to view the FBI’s full investigative file on Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server for government emails. He also pointed out that the FBI withholding information from the public after several FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) requests is also unprecedented.

Later in the hearing, when it was his turn to grill the panel, Chaffetz went off on FBI acting legislative affairs chief Jason Herring after first setting him up by asking him, “What information do you believe that Congress does not have the right to see?” When Herring tried to go off track and explain “how the FBI reached our conclusion,” Chaffetz stopped him in his tracks and refused to allow him to skirt the issue.

During his line of questioning, Chaffetz was setting up Herring for the failure that he had already prepared for. He apparently knew from experience that the FBI would once again attempt to make excuses, so after Herring failed to answer Chaffetz’s one important question, the republican lawmaker delivered a scathing lecture about the FBI believing that they can censor information from Congress.

It’s ‘trust, but verify’ is how it works,” Chaffetz told Herring. “You don’t get to decide what I get to see. I get to see it all.” Then, he dropped the hammer in an incredibly bold move by serving the FBI with a subpoena.”
