Of course, we can expect the White House to play dumb and say it had no idea that intelligence was being manipulated. Indeed, Defense Department officials have already promised to look into the matter, although it is uncertain how trustworthy the findings of such an investigation would be. But with House Republicans in the picture, it now seems we are closer to getting a full accounting. Per the Washington Examiner:
“Reps. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., and Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, will lead the investigation on behalf of the Armed Services and Intelligence committees and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
The Pentagon inspector general’s office also is investigating the allegations from analysts at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Fla., and Defense Department officials have promised lawmakers a full accounting.”
“‘Any accusation of intelligence being altered to fit a political narrative must be fully investigated and those responsible held accountable,’ added Pompeo in a statement.”
