Concealed Permit Holder Thwarts Mass Shooting in Chicago

Uber Driver Thwarts Gunman

Last Friday a 22-year old gunman began shooting into a crowd in Chicago’s Logan Square. Fortunately, an Uber driver with a concealed carry permit was able to use his gun to prevent a tragedy. Illinois Assistant State Attorney Barry Quinn confirmed that the driver had a concealed-carry permit and acted in the defense of himself and others.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the driver was watching “a group of people” walk in front of his car on North Milwaukee Avenue just before midnight when 22-year-old Everardo Custodio allegedly “began firing into the crowd.” The Uber driver pulled his own gun and “fired six shots at Custodio,” wounding him in “the shin, thigh, and lower back.”

The attempted mass shooting ended with no one other than Custodio injured.

The Chicago Sun Times reported that the Uber driver had dropped off a passenger minutes before Custodio allegedly began shooting. The Times contacted Uber about the incident and they simply said “the company requires all its drivers to abide by local, state and federal laws pertaining to transporting firearms in vehicles.”

One can only imagine the outrage of the anti-gun crowd for laws that allow the Uber driver to be armed. They will no doubt also support Custodio, the gunman, when he sues the Uber driver for medical and psychological damages. There are countless situations where a gun dissuaded a criminal and saved a life. But the Left will continue its’ relentless pursuit where all guns are eliminated from America except for the ones possessed by the criminals. And as the adage goes regarding personal safety, “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away!”

I am sure that the police in Chicago would have done a fine job mopping up the blood and pieces if the victims of Everardo Custodio’s shooting spree. But that was not necessary, because there was an ordinary citizen there to take action and use his weapon when needed.
