CNN Senior Producer Admits Trump/Russia Coverage is “Bullshit” in Undercover Video

In a video released by Project Veritas yesterday, senior producer John Bonifield admits the network’s coverage of President Trump’s alleged Russia connections is “mostly bullshit” when asked about the Russia investigation.

Could be bullshit. I mean, it’s mostly bullshit right now. Like, we don’t have any giant proof. Then they say, well there’s still an investigation going on. . . If it was something really good, it would leak…. The leaks keep leaking and there’s so many great leaks, and it’s amazing. I just refuse to believe that if they had something really good like that that wouldn’t leak because we’ve been getting all these other leaks.”

A veteran of almost 15 years with the network, Bonifield works primarily as a senior producer for CNN Health. He admits he’s seen no evidence the president has committed any crime. He also lends credence to President Trump’s contention that the whole investigation is a “witch hunt.”

So, I just feel like they don’t really have it but they want to keep digging. And so I think the president is probably right to say, like, look you are witch hunting me. You have no smoking gun. You have no real proof.”

The Project Veritas bombshell comes on the heels of a growing CNN scandal, in which one negative story on President Trump has been retracted as “not meeting network standards” and three employees responsible for the story have resigned.

O’Keefe revealed the goal of his “American Pravda” investigative video series is to uncover the real motivations behind the editorial decision-making process at major media corporations.

He noted since President Trump’s inauguration, CNN has mentioned Russia in its coverage nearly 16,000 times. On the hidden video, Bonifield acknowledged CNN management is focused so heavily on the Russia story because of ratings, not because there is any proof to the allegations.

Our ratings are incredible right now.”

He also revealed in a recent internal meeting reviewing editorial coverage, CNN President Jeff Zucker emphasized the Russia coverage over other subjects.

. . . President Trump pulled out of the climate accords and for a day and a half we covered the climate accords. And the CEO of CNN said in our internal meeting, he said good job everybody covering the climate accords, but we’re done with it let’s get back to Russia.”

Bonifield also noted the network’s intense scrutiny of President Trump would never have happened with President Barack Obama. He confessed the network’s liberal viewers would have been “turned off.”

Trump is good for business right now.”

The veteran producer confirmed that business considerations, not journalistic ethics, drive what stories the network airs.

But, all the nice cutesy little ethics that used to get talked about in journalism school, you’re just like, that’s adorable. That’s adorable. This is a business. Especially cable news. Cable news isn’t the New York Times, and it’s not even like NBC News. I mean NBC News still gets 20 million viewers a night. Cable news is getting a million. So, they got to do what they got to do to make their money.”

O’Keefe hasn’t tipped his hand as to which media might be targeted in the next installment of “American Pravda.”

Certainly, the revealing CNN video is putting other networks on their guard.
