Just watching Chris Matthews' take on president's State of the Union address, one can tell he has adopted a more critical tone toward the president. And not without good reason: Obama, always desperate to avoid contradicting his narrative of success, spent the whole time trying to toot his horn before impressionable viewers to the neglect of real issues like the American personnel being held by Iran.
Matthews said, ‘I don’t think he got into Iran. … I think he tried to avoid, as someone said ahead, he was not going to do, so he wouldn’t combine two headlines. I think he’s hoping he’ll still get his headline for fixing the political system, and have a sidebar perhaps, or even the main bar, focus on the bad story over there in Iran.'
