The Chinese Effort To Stifle Muslim Extremism: Dancing in the Streets

China, famous for its crackdown on religious freedoms, has forced the imams of eastern the Muslim majority district of Xinjiang to actually dance in the street. While doing so, they have to swear an oath that they will not teach religion to children as well telling them that prayer is harmful to the soul.

Muslim imams were forced to brandish the slogan that “our income comes from the CKP not from Allah”. State Chinese news said the imams were gathering in a square in the name of civilization where they were forced to dance and chant out slogans in support of the Chinese state.

In a rousing day of happiness, they also gave speeches instructing youth to stay away from mosques, and that the prayer was harmful to their health. Instead, the imams encouraged them to joyfully dance. The slogans included statements glorifying the state over religion such as ‘peace of the country gives peace to the soul’. No “Allhu Akbar” around here.

Female teachers were instructed to teach children to stay away from religious education and all were made to swear an oath that they will keep children away from religion.

Uighur Muslims are a Turkish-speaking minority of eight million in the northwestern Xinjiang region.

Xinjiang territory, which activists call East Turkestan, has been allegedly autonomous since 1955. However it suffers constant massive security crackdowns by Chinese authorities.

Rights groups accuse Chinese authorities of religious repression against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang. Chinese government officials could care less what anyone outside the Middle Kingdom thinks. They do care what those inside think and how they act. Considering that is the same goal as Islam, a conflict will result.

My money is on the Chinese. They don’t bother with showy beheadings. They will simply mow them all down with heavy weapons, just like they did to their own people.
