China’s New Aircraft Carrier Might Not be a Carrier After All

When it comes to cultural differences between China and the United States, there’s obviously a lot of gaps between our cultures that extends to everything from food, to clothing, to government and apparently boats. According to some satellite imagery released earlier this year, China has started construction on a new aircraft carrier…we think. In the image on the next page, you’ll see a very large life raft with a tower in the center.

This is allegedly their second attempt, in addition to refurbishing a Soviet-era flattop they finished trials on last year. When this one is complete, it’ll be the first Chinese carrier made entirely in the country. Whether or not it’ll float, hold planes and helicopters or really do any of the things a boat is supposed to do has yet to be determined.

What can be determined is that the rest of the world really doesn’t have anything to fear, especially since China doesn’t have any of the experience or skill in building things like this.
