Chicago Suburb Authorizes Police to Confiscate ‘Assault Weapons’ and ‘High Capacity’ Magazines

Chicago is a very dangerous city. Liberals would ask us to believe that this is in part due to too many private citizens owning guns. There are several problems with this statement, not the least being that the city already has very stringent gun laws. So if that doesn’t work, in true liberal form, you don’t reevaluate your approach. You just double-down on the left-wing policy that is failing.

But confiscating personal property without due process of law is dangerous and unconstitutional. It doesn’t matter what property is involved. It just so happens that in cities that are ruled by liberal despots, the people suffer — and under more than just the illegal confiscations of firearms.

Here comes an unconstitutional liberal non-solution to a problem that is destined to fail. But the liberals can feel good because they “did something.” What a pitiful group of community leaders.

Owners of assault weapons living in north suburban Deerfield have until June 13 to remove the firearms from within village limits or face daily fines after a ban was approved Monday night.

The Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a ban on certain types of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, amending a 2013 ordinance that regulated the storage of those items.

The new ordinance prohibits the possession, sale and manufacturing of certain types of assault weapons and large capacity magazines within the village, according to the ordinance. One change from the law as it was originally discussed exempts retired police officers from the ban, according to Village Manager Kent Street.

Violations carry a fine of between $250 and $1,000 per day, according to Matthew Rose, the village attorney. He said the fine is levied each day until there is compliance.

Here is what an indoctrinated student who supports this law sounds like.

Ariella Kharasch, a Deerfield High School senior who favors the legislation, said she wants more action both on a local and national level.

“This is our fight,” Kharasch said. “This is our generation’s fight. We’re going to keep fighting and this is part of it. Change happens gradually step by step. The fight does not end at the borders of our village.”

Meaningless babble supporting purported “solutions” that don’t work. It’s the liberal procedure: If something does not work, just put more money and work into the project. Never stop to think if what you are doing is wrong in the first place.

And here is the loyal opposition to such unconstitutional laws:

Joel Siegel of Lincolnwood said governments in other countries have banned weapons and then proceeded to use weapons against defenseless citizens. He urged civil disobedience as a way to stay safe.

“There’s an ancient and honored American tradition called disobeying an unjust law,” Siegel said. “I have urged (people) to listen to their conscience and if so moved do not obey this law.”

Mike Weisman, a Glen Ellyn resident and a board member of the Illinois State Rifle Association said Deerfield should be prepared for a lawsuit like the one filed against neighboring Highland Park. That city received assistance with its legal defense from gun violence prevention organizations, according to Street.

Lost to the liberals are several points.

The first is that this will not prevent violent students from getting guns for their rampages at schools. The need is to deter them by the certainty that they will be met with force if they attempt such violence.

The second point is that there are other ways to inflict mass casualties. It’s already illegal to carry bombs into schools. What would stop students from shifting to that method, especially if they are suicidal? Don’t students carry backpacks into schools?

The left hates guns. They hate what they represent — the right of citizens to resist a tyrannical government. Gun confiscation is the handmaiden of totalitarianism.

The anti-gun forces must be defeated.
