A $.10 fee is now being added to each gallon of gas, before sales tax, in California. It is a tax, but that isn’t what they are calling it. Instead, the fee is described as an amount paid by gas retailers when distributors load tanker trucks.
So California drivers are being forced to pay a tax on a tax. How soon will other states follow?
“The global warming fee, which is variable and could soar in the future, added about a dime this week,” Dan McSwain of UT San Diego said. “Then the state adds 2.25% of the full retail price – including those other fees and taxes – while city and county sales taxes add more (0.5% in most of San Diego County).”
Many drivers haven’t noticed the increase yet due to the plummeting gas prices, but they will eventually because the $0.10 per gallon fee is not a set price – it’s determined by California’s “cap-and-trade” market in which various industries trade their permits covering specific amounts of emissions, the total of which is capped by the state.
In other words, the “global warming” fee can go up.
“In August, California’s legislative analyst estimated that, by 2020, retail prices were likely to rise between 13 cents and 20 cents a gallon because of cap-and-trade,” McSwain added. “But the analyst, Mac Taylor, warned that increases could exceed 50 cents in some cases.”
“And an oil-industry group warned the costs could spike to 76 cents, based on state figures.”
This is intentional; the “cap-and-trade” system was designed to raise gas prices and energy costs using artificial scarcity created through the hoax of man-made “global warming.”
“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” President Obamatold reporters in 2008. “Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money.”
“They will pass that money on to consumers.”

the amazing part of the whole thing is, Californians don’t see the whole picture and continue to get taxed to death. Just another form of taxation without representation, i.e. Pelosi and Feinstein! jmo
Pam does not even know how much taxes she pays. Maine charges .31 cent per gallon and the Fed charges .17 cents per gallon. But maybe you were using that common core math.
That bunch in California will believe anything. That is why it started there and will move East.
Sorry for all the earlier typos from my spelling corrector on the phone!
Now that gas prices are falling, 9% since beginning of December 2014, the Federal Government is acquiring substantially less in gasoline tax revenue. Therefore I suspect that the bean counters in Washington are scratching their collective heads as to where and how they are going to replace the lost revenue. I can envision in the near future a tax scheme, commonly referred to as a “Fee” on the number of miles driven per registered vehicle per year owned by each taxpayer. Not only are vehicles averaging more MPG but as stated earlier, less taxes are collected as a result. So look for this in the near future. Hope this brightens up you day.
They don’t call California “The Land of Fruit and Nuts” for nothing.
Pam. Your suggestion to stop driving cars is ridiculous as you know. Everyone needs to use some means of transportation to do their daily duties. In this country we did not invest in mass public transportation. We invested in the military to engage in wars overseas and intrude into other countries’ business, and bully the world, while our infrastructure rots and collapses, our children come out of colleges with a lifelong indebtedness to banks, we can’t afford healthcare, etc So not driving is not a choice. Cars are a necessity. In Europe, gas prices are approximately 2 to 3 times what we pay. However, they do have an very efficient, affordable, convenient alternative. Their public transportation. Ridiculous, not well thought out solutions don’t help. They only make you look silly.
grrrr
What ain’t fruits and nut’s is flakes,,, “George Burns” I declare Shenanigans
They already did that. Just another excuse to pay for all their stupid programs that don’t do anyone any good. One of the reasons I left.
