CA Passes Bill Jailing People for Using Wrong Gender Pronouns

Here’s an excerpt from my interviews with two CNA’s (Certified Nursing Assistants) working at assisted living centers. The purpose was to ascertain how likely it would be that a person stricken with mental illness would remember pronouns:

ME: “How many of the patients are actually still there mentally?”

CNA 1: I would say about ⅓ are all there. ⅓ mostly there but have no short term memory and the ⅓ pretty much gone.

CNA 2: ‘I don’t know. It’s just old people get confused so easily. The majority of patients suffering from dementia or age-related memory problems would more than likely go back and forth on what their preferred gender would be on any given day. They go back and forth. For example, one lady, she believes sometimes she is on an airplane. I’ve never encountered a transgendered patient, but I’d imagine the mentally acuity would be similar to their peers – all over the place. I’d also suspect that the lack of consistently by the caregivers (CNAs) would have a negative impact on the quality of care.”

Now I know I’m likely not the most tactful interviewer. But, I got some insightful answers that helped shed new light on the topic.

It is highly likely that most transgender patients would be unable to remember being called by the wrong pronoun or maintain the same desired public gender throughout the day.

So, what does this accomplish? O wait… jailing people for basing their thoughts on scientific evidence, not ludicrous liberal dogma…
