This week, Bruce Springsteen claimed that he was standing amount “embarrassed Americans”.
This coming from the man who sings “Born in the USA,” but the signs were there all along. Springsteen’s hit may sound like a patriotic jam, but its intention is often misheard or misunderstood. With lyrics like “So they put a rifle in my hand / Sent me off to a foreign land / To go and kill the yellow man,” the song was a political statement from the very beginning.
The anti-war/anti-America message may have been subtle then, but now Springsteen is making his displeasure with the United States known across the world. His most overt criticism of his home country came this week during a concert in Melbourne, Australia.

Sorry, Bruce, America does not embarrass me, but you do.
I think you are all missing the point. Embarrassment is OK. Embarrassment can lead to positive change. Without embarrassment we may still have slavery. Women might not be allowed to vote. Blacks may still be forced to use separate bathrooms. Embarrassment is GOOD. You may not agree with his stance and that’s OK. But to have someone say they’re embarrassed to be an American is their right. And many times throughout history, those are the people that lead positive change. Embrace the embarrassed! Support their right to be embarrassed! Stop judging and try to understand what is really being said! And for the record, I’m not a Democrat. I’m simply a supporter of freedom of speech and believe that citizens having different opinions and beliefs (and even being embarrassed) is what makes this country great!
I’m not the least bit embarrassed. I was embarrassed by our Muslim president and this guy who thinks he can speak for all AMERICANS. Just shut up and sing. You are there to entertain, period.
