Bono: No Evidence in Trump’s Life He Ever Cared About People ‘Hardest Hit’

The Jimmy Kimmel show featured the band members of U2 and they treated the Liberal audience to a little heavy talk about the Manchester Arena concert bombing, some voice acoustics, and finally a bit of Trump-bashing, because they know how much the 45 people who watch the show every night love that.

Kimmel threw out his only question regarding Trump, directly to Bono, setting up the lead singer for a great lead-in to a few well-needed laughs:

BONO:  Yeah, the one campaign we worked with everybody and worked – we’ve got on our board, we got Conservatives and Liberals and our thinking is you just need one thing to agree with somebody on…to start a conversation and fight against extreme poverty.  We thought was worth the conversation with…uh…with anybody.  However, [audience laughs] eh, everything’s different now.  And, uh, it really is.  The game has changed and I have so much respect for a lot of people who…who voted President Trump into office.  I really understand.  I understand the anger – I have some of that anger myself coming from where we came from.  I understand people being disillusioned with the political process.   And they think the body politic is sick and…whatever.  But I don’t think that President – if you’ll allow me to say this – I don’t think he’s…he’s the cure for this problem.  And I think he might even make it worse.  And – and, I don’t think there’s any evidence in his life that he has the people who ate hardest hit – uh – in mind.  And, and I, that really, that really saddens me because I know he likes to see their faces in the crowd, but I don’t think he wants to know who they are when they go home.  And, and that saddens me.  And, and again, it’s with great respect for Republicans I know and love, their party I admire.  It’s just, this is a different thing.  It’s, it’s just, it’s, it’s –

KIMMEL:  I get the sense that you guys love America more than ninety-nine percent of the Americans that I – [audience laughs] that I know.

Yes, Jimmy, we know very well the “Americans” you hang out with and why 99% of them don’t love America.  I’m sure all your America-hating American friends are so proud that you mentioned them on national television, too.  If only more people had been watching your floundering show, perhaps you wouldn’t need a Trump-hating gimmicky question to hold their attention.

It is ironic that Bono would say that Donald Trump didn’t care about the poor when Bono’s own anti-poverty charity has come under fire for financial irregularities:

Bono’s anti-poverty foundation ONE is under pressure to explain its finances after it was revealed that only a small percentage of money it raises reaches the needy.

The non-profit organisation set up by the U2 frontman received almost £9.6million in donations in 2008 but handed out only £118,000 to good causes (1.2 per cent).
The figures published by the New York Post also show that £5.1million went towards paying salaries.

While the organisation’s gameplan has never been direct handouts on the ground, many who admire the Irish rock legend may be surprised by the figures.

I believe in psychology they call that ‘transference’.

Man, do I miss Johnny Carson!
