Bill Kristol: I Prefer the “Deep State” to the Trump ‘State’

The neocons hang out in the Republican party because, well, they need to establish a power base somewhere. Yet they are far from exponents of limited-government, and certainly despise President Trump’s “America First” policies. They opposed him from the beginning of his campaign and will continue to do so throughout his presidency.

They are strong supporters of an aggressive foreign policy that would use US military power to intervene in the affairs of nations such as Ukraine, Libya, Iraq, Iran, and Syria in order to install regimes friendly to the US.  Referring to the neocons as being members of “The War Party” is appropriate — it’s just unfortunate that we didn’t think of it first.

The danger represented by people like Kristol is typified by his response to the resignation of Michael Flynn as national security advisor, and by the controversy over alleged communications Trump staffers, as well as Mr. Trump himself, might have had in the run-up to his inauguration.

So unhappy is Mr. Kristol with President Trump that he has actually publicly stated that he would prefer the “Deep State,” or elements of the intelligence community and its allies, to run the country instead of its legally elected president.

He continues his assault by making comparing the issues confronting the Trump administration with Watergate and President Nixon.

What we have here is a man who is prepared to jettison our Constitutional form of government and employ police-state tactics engineered by unaccountable intelligence community activists to accomplish his goals. As such he is just as dangerous as any alleged communist operative of decades past.

If he got the government he wanted, one wonders how he would react if it turned against him, and he got that ominous knock on the door late one night, never to be heard from again.
