In one of the most ominous observations ever by a presidential candidate, Dr. Ben Carson has indicated that he believes there may not actually be an election held in 2016 at all.
He suggests that President Barack Obama may conjure up multiple reasons why it is not “prudent” to hand over the reins of government to someone besides himself in a time of crisis. And there are a number of troubling indications that Carson may be right. Obama has shown himself to be a believer in not letting a good crisis go to waste, even one that is self created.
We should consider such events as the Ebola virus scare and associated mandatory quarantine as one way to ensure the public is prevented from congregating in the open. The almost $19 trillion in government debt and the possibility that the Chinese yuan could become the world currency of choice could bring the American economy crashing down, leading to massive riots as welfare, EBT, Medicaid and Medicare card failures make them became worthless.
And certainly the potential or even likelihood of Islamic terrorism on our own shores could lead to a widespread crisis, all suggesting that Obama could declare a change of leadership to be “inconvenient” and perhaps even impossible for an indeterminate period.

Can he really enact “martial law”? Generally martial law involves a high ranking military officer seizing control of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of our government and giving that power to the military. While Obama is our commander-in-chief, he is not a military officer. In order to have actual martial law in the US, we would need someone like the CJCS seizing power, which obviously isn’t going to happen.
One more time for all those too ignorant to figure it out. Obama could declare martial law until hell freezes but without the support of Congress it goes nowhere. Nowhere, period. Even if Congress, by some ungodly miracle, did approve a declaration of martial law it would take civilian law enforcement to enact it as the military, except the National Guard which are controlled by the Governors, is not allowed by law to operate against U.S. citizens on American soil. So no, it’s not going to happen. Should he even attempt such a move the backlash would be unreal.
