Backing Up In Your Own Driveway Might Become Illegal In Jacksonville, Florida

The stated purpose of the proposed bill is to crack down vehicle owners storing non-functioning cars on their property. Proponents state that the law is needed because if inspectors can’t read the license plate they can’t write a citation, and they can’t go onto the property to peek behind cars.

he bill filed by City Councilman Warren Jones says that if a vehicle’s tag isn’t visible from the street, the owner must write down that information with 2-inch tall letters and post it in a location that inspectors can easily see from the street.

The bill also says that if an owner puts a cover over the vehicle, the license tag must either be visible or the tag information must be posted.

The bill also would crack down on the outdoor storage of disabled refrigerators and freezers along with “equipment, furnishings, furniture, appliances, construction materials or any other items which are not designed to be used outdoors.”
