Athiest Richard Dawkins: Christianity Is A Bulwark Against Radical Religious Ideologies

Richard Dawkins has not been a proponent of Christianity.  In fact, in his book, The God Delusion, Dawkins compared religious education, in this case, referring to Catholicism, to the sexual abuse of children, concluding incredibly that the latter was actually preferable to the former.

He rightly condemned, in his book, clerical sex abuse, but he stated as “horrible as sexual abuse no doubt was, the damage was arguably less than the long-term psychological damage inflicted by bringing the child up Catholic in the first place.”   For Dawkins, belief in God is far worse than enduring sexual abuse.

Yet now, when faced with a epidemic of evil done in the name of radical Islam, where child rape and suicide bombers are praised as heroes, Dawkins has discovered something worse than believing in God.

In a text that is coursing about on social media, professional God-slayer Richard Dawkins begrudgingly admitted that Christianity may actually be our best defense against aberrant forms of religion that threaten the world.

“There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings,” Dawkins said. “I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death.”

In a rare moment of candor, Dawkins reluctantly accepted that the teachings of Jesus Christ do not lead to a world of terror, whereas followers of radical Islam perpetrate the very atrocities that he laments.

In this moment of clarity, Dawkins speculates whether Christianity might be the antidote to save western civilization from the onslaught of the jihadists.

“I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse,” he said.

These comments, made by Dawkins, occurred in 2010, yet they have taken on a life all their own, with the full understanding of how truly evil radical Islam is in light of the ever growing ISIS movement and the terrorist attacks in places that one used to think was untouchable.

Dawkins rightly states that Christianity do not force conversion at the edge of a sword, neither do they walk into theaters with suicide vests on, nor gang rape women in the name of their religion.
