The Assault On The Confederate Flag

State Governments

State legislators across the South are now debating the future of Confederate flag in their states.

On Tuesday, the South Carolina House passed an amendment to permit a debate on the removal of the Confederate flag from Capitol grounds. It passed 103-10.

Over in Mississippi, GOP House Speaker Philip Gunn declared it was time for Mississippi to change its flag, which includes the Confederate insignia.

In Alabama, Gov. Robert Bentley had the Confederate battle flag taken down from the confederate memorial on the state Capitol grounds this morning.

Retailers

So far, retailers Walmart, Sears, eBay, and Amazon have all stopped selling the flag. However, it appears that you can still buy the Confederate flag online through Amazon’s foreign affiliates.

But as of noon on June 24, Confederate products are still readily available on Amazon’s many foreign affiliates.

Amazon UK, for instance, allows visitors to buy an aluminum sign, a wristband, and a bandanna, all emblazoned with the Southern battle flag.

Amazon Canada doesn’t have the battle flag, but it currently has no problem selling the Stars and Bars, which served as the CSA’s first official flag, as well as a shower curtain that features the South’s final official flag, which also incorporates the battle flag.

If you want a straightforward cloth battle flag, your best best may be the French Amazon, which still has it for sale, along with spin-off products like a notebook emblazoned with the flag and this canvas print mixing the flag with an attractive and scantily clad woman.

Sitcom

Warner Brothers announced Wednesday that it would stop selling products that feature the Confederate flag. Of course, this includes the General Lee, the iconic car from the TV show “The Dukes of Hazzard” that has a Rebel flag painted on its roof.

Actor Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport on the show, fired back at the massive assault on the flag, calling it a “symbol that represents the indomitable spirit of independence.”

He runs 3 stores that sells items that celebrate the show, including the Confederate flag, and vows that he will not stop.

“Activists and politicians are vilifying Southern culture and heritage as being bigoted and racist. We know that is not the case,” Jones added, “And we know that in Hazzard County there was never any racism.”

But is this all just a knee jerk reaction to the Charleston shooting or is there something else at play? According to Rush Limbaugh, this is part of a leftist effort to destroy the South as a political force. And, the American flag will be next:
