Activists: Police Use of ‘Plain Clothes Officers’ Excuses Man Who Shot at Cops

The “Black Struggle” spokesperson Kayla Reid, also spoke of plain clothes officers not having body cameras, which “only leaves the officers account”.   Most of the protest was peaceful, said several accounts, until several protesters started throwing bottles at the police,  and gunfire rang out near buildings that had been looted just moments earlier.  That sent several officers to the hospital with cuts and some had also been pepper spayed by protesters.

During the ensuing chaos, Harris approached an unmarked police van and opened fire on the vehicle. Officers got out, opened fire and chased after the fleeing Harris. He would eventually turn and fire a second salvo of shots at the officers, at which point he was shot several times.”

Harris is in critical condition.   “Court records show that Tyrone Harris Jr. was charged in November with stealing a motor vehicle and a gun, as well as resisting arrest by fleeing” stated authorities.  The gun used by Harris was a stolen semi-automatic 9mm.

Harris’ father stated:

“My son was running to the police to ask for help, and he was shot,” he said. “It’s all a bunch of lies … They’re making my son look like a criminal.”

Officials state there were approximately 100 uniformed officers on hand.
