The most valuable naval assets the US deploys are its aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. Unlike the subs which remain hidden, our ten aircraft carriers remain in full view. For anyone who has ever see one in person, the things are just overwhelming. They cost billions and take years to construct. The loss of a single aircraft carrier, let alone several, would be catastrophic.
They remain a primary method by which the US projects power around the globe. Accompanied by cruisers and destroyers (and probably a submarine), a carrier task force is formidable indeed.
Typically we see our carriers, or at least some of them, deployed around the world, frequently in the Middle East. For a brief period of time right now, that’s not the case. More on page two.
What’s up with this?
F**e news
Very scary, as right now China is conducting flight qual’s in the South China Sea, and Russia has moved their carrier into position off the coast of Syria.
Obama is tring to weaken America by leaving our country like a sitting duck for attack
If you knew the maintenance schedule for Carriers you would understand more clearly. They have extended and re extended the Carriers beyond their normal refitting dates due to the many years of conflict. Salt water is an unforgiving enemy, and steel is steel. Carriers function on steam production from their reactors, steam catapults are only good for so many shots then the return cables and related machinery needs replaced. The main bulkhead that stops the catapults flattens out from repeated hits every time a jet is launched and it is tied directly into the frame of the ship. You should hear the impact, it reverberates through the entire ship. Sounds like two freight trains colliding. They must dismember the ship to replace these main internal parts, that takes quite a while, plus refitting all the metal that has been corroded by saltwater. This requires dry docking. On a ship the size of a Carrier it is a huge undertaking. Material acquisition has become a problem also, from Congress approval for funding to the bidding process at foundries. The red tape slows down the process tremendously through all phases. People become very judgemental with little or no education about things like these. Perhaps become involved with a volunteer organization that supports our military personnel and privies you to some education on these subjects. Our military cannot disparage their Commander in Chief.
JUST REMEMBER: They are ALL READY
He’s way of putting the U S in trouble real quick if some of his friends decide to do their jobs they have set up to do. Virginia, NC, Washington are all set to go up in smoke.
