The Confederacy has long been a controversial topic in the United States. While the state has long been associated with racism and slavery, many modern southerners view the Confederacy as an important part of southern heritage.
Until recently, relics of the Confederate States of America have been allowed throughout the south for historical purposes, but in today’s politically correct climate, many of those monuments have been forcibly removed.
Last year, statues of Robert E. Lee, the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, were removed from locals parks in Virgina. The contractor who removed the statues found his Lamborghini torched in response.
Now, more statues of the former general are coming down across the state — at huge cost.
Read about the latest Robert E. Lee statue to fall on the next page:
So what stereotypical thing is going to be removed next? History is history, there are books, films, and documentation everywhere. I guess this big bad statue being gone will help those who can’t accept facts.
History is real. Removing statue is dumb and changes nothing.
Anyone that vote for this should be hang and let the hogs eat
absolutely disgusting, does anyone realize he was a graduate of West Point and Lincoln wanted him to command the northen armies. His character would not let him discard Virginia and the south. The greatest General of the ncivil war. And this from a New Yorker. Where the hell is our country going to?
So Obama should never be on Mt Rushmore right
Well, my goodness gracious, lets just go back and rewrite history. We can forget all the black people were never sold by their own people in Africa then we wouldn’t have had the Civil War. Works for me !!!
Growing up in downtown New Orleans, the first 2 schools I attended were Robert E. Lee followed by Lafayette elementary schools – I remember seeing ‘Whites Only’ restaurants, restrooms and water fountains – Despite all that, in 6th grade, the first girl that I really had a crush on was black… Imagine going home to share that exciting news with dear old dad!!! Whether one was racist or not, whites and blacks dating was rather taboo in the late 60’s in New Orleans – In junior high school, a classmate showed me a polaroid picture of a black man hanging from a tree – His dad was supposedly a member of the KKK – If nothing else, there definitely was ‘environmental racism’ in the south to the point where famous preachers and evangelists like Oral Roberts was saying that blacks and whites should not date or marry – If people want to connect statues to that dark period in America’s recent past and destroying said statues makes them feel better, I don’t have an issue with it – What I do have an issue with are Liberals rewriting history to say that slavery and the KKK were Republican inventions… Obviously, not true!!!
I’ll take it
Remove the statue of MLK it is a pice of histroy.and needs to be taken down for the whites to see if the blacks will like it
