40 Miles of Northern U.S. Border Left Unpatrolled on Orders of Border Patrol Manager in Contradiction of Agency Policy

According to Border Patrol agents alarmed about the security gap, managers who are holdovers from the Obama Administration are exhibiting careless disregard for the directives of the Trump Administration.

These agents offer two possible reasons for the order: previous Obama-era policies that continue to be followed, and a belief that widespread corruption exists within the upper management of the Havre Sector.

Concerned agents have become outspoken about the order and enlisted the aid of Border Patrol Agent Brandon Judd, who leads the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC). More than one agent offers the likelihood of wrongdoing.

From a border security standpoint, this directive makes no sense, but there has to be a reason so I don’t think it’s a far stretch to conclude it’s due to corruption.”

Upon learning about the border security gap, Agent Judd was appalled and believes there must be more accountability from the top management level, beginning with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.

I believe Secretary Kelly’s constant praise of former Secretary Jeh Johnson is an endorsement of his open border policies. There are so many good managers in the Border Patrol, but when Secretary Kelly condones his predecessors’ failures, he opens the door for the bad managers to act like this and bring shame on the entire organization.”

Border Patrol agents who were present at the meeting in which the controversial order was given told the manager they felt the order was “illegal and a dereliction of duty.”

They even argued it was contrary to President Trump’s express wishes as set forth in the Border Security Executive Order. The agents asked for the rationale behind the order, but the manager refused to provide one, according to them.”

As the order was given, an agent representative of the NBPC walked into the muster room and wrote down the order verbatim. He then read the order back to the manager to make sure he got it correctly. The manager confirmed he did. All present at the meeting signed the order, including the manager.

Agent Judd has confirmed that the handwritten and signed order is authentic. He expressed his displeasure with the fact that the manager wouldn’t listen to the agents’ concerns.

Managers who sit behind a desk and never patrol the border should never dictate operations and policy, otherwise, this is what you get”

Agents continue to speak out against the order, knowing that criminal cartels will be able to exploit the weakness of such a large area of open, unpatrolled border.

President Trump signed and issued his Border Security Executive Order on January 25, 2017, calling for enhanced border security and immigration enforcement improvements.
