LEFTIST PROTEST #3: LOS ANGELES RIOTS
In the spring of 1991, Rodney King is beaten by LAPD officers after King leads police on a high-speed chase through Los Angeles County. The beating was videotaped by a bystander from his apartment balcony. The video shows King being struck by police batons more than 50 times, inflicting 11 fractures and other injuries.
In 1992, the police officers involved in the beating were acquitted and all hell broke loose. The riots, which spanned five days in the spring of 1992, left more than 50 people dead and more than 2,000 injured, destroying and looting over 1,000 buildings in the Los Angeles area. The estimated cost of the damages was over $1B. More than 9,800 California National Guard troops were dispatched to restore order. Nearly 12,000 people were arrested.
This was the second worst riot in the history of our country.
