10 Iconic Leftist Protests Gone Hellishly Wrong

LEFTIST PROTEST #1:  1967 DETROIT REBELLION

The establishment was called the Blind Pig, which was a local 12th Street unlicensed, illegal drinking establishment that had been raided many times by the Detroit Police Department.  A group of 82 Black revelers were inside the bar celebrating the return of two GIs from the Vietnam War when the police once again to raid the illegal joint.  As they were arranging transportation outside the building, the owner’s song threw a bottle at the police and this subsequently escalated into a small riot.

As the outnumbered police force departed, the mob proceeded to loot the neighboring clothing store.  By the afternoon, the looting had become widespread across the city.  The father of Mitt Romney, Governor George W. Romney called on the Michigan National Guard to step in and quell the riots which had stretched on for five days and nights.

All told, 33 Blacks and 10 Whites were killed, 1,189 were injured, and over 7,200 people were arrested. Approximately 2,500 stores were looted, and the total property damage was estimated at about $32 million.  The mayor, Democrat Jerome Cavanaugh, who had high expectations of running for the presidency, ended up fading away into history after his city had been virtually burned to the ground.
