Judicial Watch Demands IRS Head Be Fired after IRS Scandal Records Go ‘Missing’

The new Inspector General report on IRS records practices has prompted Judicial Watch to call for the firing of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen and a demand the Justice Department reopen its criminal inquiry into IRS abuses and a cover-up in the Obama administration.

[The] Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report . . . finds the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) records management practice resulted in lost records and incomplete IRS responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and congressional inquiries.”

The watchdog group expressed its outrage that the IRS didn’t inform them, the courts or Congress about the missing government records.

Our attorneys will review this report to assess whether we should seek relief and accountability from the courts.  In the meantime, President Trump should finally fire IRS Commissioner John Koskinen and direct the Justice Department to reopen its criminal inquiry into the Obama IRS abuses and cover-ups.”

Last April, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)  lawsuit against the IRS to obtain records related to the agency’s “preservation and/or retention” of the email records of officials who’ve left the IRS since January 2010.

Prior litigation forced the IRS to initially say the Lerner emails were missing. The story then changed to the agency telling the court the emails were on backup systems.

The latest report of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration makes it clear the inadequate “records management practice resulted in lost records and incomplete IRS responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and congressional inquiries.”

Ironically, taxpayers are required to have better records management practices or they will face the iron hand of the IRS coming down on them. Try telling the IRS, “I can’t find those receipts” or “I forgot where I put those files.”

The IRS scandal continues unaddressed by Congress or President Trump. Barack Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder kicked that can down the road a long time ago after getting bogus headlines for their fake bluster and outrage.

It’s left to citizen watchdogs to try to get elected officials to do their jobs.
