Democratic Domain Brings Minneapolis to Ruins

Like many cities in America, Minneapolis is one that once thrived until taken over by the Democratic party. Where industry and prosperity once lived, homelessness and high rates of crime have taken their place. It stems from the age-old, false belief that the Democratic party is the party of the people.

American politics is dominated by an enduring myth,” writes author Peter Collier—the myth “that Democrats are the party of the common man, the voiceless, the powerless, the poor. That if you care about what happens to the least among us, you will cast your vote in the Democratic column.”

Ironically, the vast majority of Americans who are impoverished and powerless (as the Democrats would want us to believe) are concentrated in strictly Democratic-run cities – and strictly so for decades, if not generations!

These are cities where stratospheric rates of crime, poverty, unemployment, out-of-wedlock births, homes without fathers and failed school systems have become a way of life—along with oppressive and confiscatory taxes whose only discernible achievement is to keep the leaky ship of city government afloat for as long as possible before it is inevitably capsized by economic and social calamity.

Since 1978, Minneapolis has been governed exclusively by mayors from the Democratic Farmer Labor Party (DFLP). Before this dynasty took over, Minneapolis enjoyed a poverty rate consistently lower than the national average. Though the city did share in the good times of Reagan’s trickle down economics, the Democratic mayors had to step in with their own economic plans.

In 1988, Mayor Donald Fraser was troubled by the extreme difference between the majority of his city that were thriving economically and a number of neighborhoods that were struggling with crime, teenage pregnancy, and welfare dependency. His solution? Redistribution of income!

He decided to revamp the way in which social-welfare expenditures were allocated and believed, specifically, that federal and local agencies needed to focus more of their resources on the economic problems confronting unwed mothers (who were disproportionately black) and their children.

Mayors since Fraser have followed suit, and the results have been disastrous. As of 2015, the poverty rate in Minneapolis was 25.3%, as compared to the 14.3% rate of the U.S. as a whole. Despite such high poverty levels, Minneapolis has skyrocketed their property tax rates to generate more revenue, yet they remain incapable of balancing a budget.

They have been largely dependent on federal subsidies, especially for public housing, but this will come to a screeching halt as Minneapolis is a “sanctuary city.” Under President Trump, their funding will come to an end as long as they continue in their sanctuary policies. Despite the desperate need for federal assistance, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges stated:

As long as I stand as Mayor, he’s going to have to get through me.”

And it is this exact Democratic rhetoric that will lead Minneapolis further down the path of ruin. Their practically socialist economy coupled with their defiant policies will run this city into the ground.
