According to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports, two of every three “swing” voters say the Pentagon should postpone plans to accept transgender recruits.
Secretary Mattis explained his June 30 decision in terms of his overall approach to managing our nation’s military.
Since becoming the Secretary of Defense, I have emphasized that the Department of Defense must measure each policy decision against one critical standard: will the decision affect the readiness and lethality of the force? Put another way, how will the decision affect the ability of America’s military to defend the nation? It is against this standard that I provide the following guidance on the way forward in accessing transgender individuals into the military Services.”
Opposition to the Obama transgender initiatives for the military argued against them because they would force soldiers to share bathroom and shower facilities with members of the opposite sex and require the military to bear the cost of providing expensive medical procedures such as hormones and surgery for people trying to live as a member of the opposite sex.
The Rasmussen poll was published just before the June 30 Pentagon announcement.
The June 26 to June 27 survey of 1,000 likely voters showed 48 percent of voters supporting a delay, only 32 percent oppose a delay and an unusually larger proportion — 21 percent — avoided comment, saying they were “not sure.”
Importantly, 52 percent of the swing-voting independents back a delay, while only 25 percent oppose a delay — and 23 percent declined to comment.”
The Rasmussen poll indicated some hesitancy on the part of respondents to fully commit to a position, perhaps for fear of being considered being a bigot. The ultra-left media and politicians pushing transgender ideology have had their impact on keeping people from openly expressing their opposition to transgenders serving in the military.
The military issue is part of a much larger societal issue because of President Obama’s almost obsessive drive to force transgender acceptance throughout all facets of society.
[T]he advocates demand that the federal government force Americans to accept the sex-switching “gender identity” claims made by each person, regardless of scientific data about genetics, biology and the variety of normal behavior and appearances shown by normal women and men.”
President Donald Trump and his administration have made clear their intention to roll back the Obama transgender policies across the board.
