As serious as the threat posed by terrorists to our nation is, it is time that we reconsider how we are trying to protect ourselves from the problem.
When the federal government created the TSA, it was expected that the organization would make invaluable contributions in the fight against terrorism as we reeled from the shock of 9/11 and endeavored to hunt Osama Bin Laden down. Yet five years after the death of the jihadist mastermind, and the group has done nothing more than prove to be an irritant to honest Americans trying to make their way through airport security.
As incompetent as it is corrupt, the agency has employed workers who have stolen luggage from travelers as well as subjected passengers to unnecessary scrutiny, resulting in such absurdity as four year olds being scanned for bombs and other dangerous weapons. One of the most egregious examples of TSA overreach was caught on tape just recently.
