White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough bluntly told a liberal pro-Israel lobby group yesterday “an occupation that has lasted for almost 50 years must end.”
He added, “President Obama still firmly believes what he said in Jerusalem two years ago — that peace is necessary, just and possible. Peace is necessary because it is the only way to ensure that a secure state of Israel is both Jewish and democratic. Israel cannot maintain military control of another people indefinitely. That’s the truth.”
It’s not the first time the word “occupation” has been used by an Obama official. In fact, in 2013, President Obama used it himself.
“The Palestinian people deserve an end to occupation and the daily indignities that come with it,” Obama said in Ramallah during a joint appearance with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
McDonough’s remarks continued the White House’s pushback against Netanyahu’s comments before his re-election that a two-state solution was off the table. Netanyahu has since walked back the remarks.
“Over the course of President Obama’s administration,” McDonough said, “most recently with the tireless efforts of Secretary Kerry, the United States has expended tremendous energy in pursuit of this goal. That is why the prime minister’s comments on the eve of the election — in which he first intimated and then made very clear in response to a follow-up question that a Palestinian state will not be established while he is prime minister — were so troubling.”
McDonough said the Obama administration will continue to oppose Israeli settlement expansion because “it undermines the prospects for peace.”

You are given possession a vacant lot next to your home that was in your family for many hundreds of years, but got tied up in a dispute with say the railroad who claimed it was given to them in the government land grant when they built across the nation way back when. The matter was finally settled in the courts and you were given legal $#%&!@*le to the property in question. The railroad still owns land around you and so is a neighbor. They continue to carry the grudge and refuse to accept the courts determination, claiming they own the lot. They har$#%&!@* you and your family relentlessly, setting bags of dog p**p at your door, setting them on fire and ringing the doorbell, firing arrows from their roof at your house, spray painting derogatory slang on your garage door, dumping garbage in the lot, sending M80’s randomly over your fence, shooting BB’s at your pets. They bad mouth you to anyone who will listen and make things up to demonize you and your family.
The neighbors who have lived in the neighborhood for along time and know the history of how the grudge began recognizes that you are a good neighbor and have acted in good faith trying to promote peace. They like living with the example you set and vote you head of the homeowners $#%&!@*ociation. Even members of the railroad who occupy other parcels in the neighborhood feel safer with you in charge. The railroad has their distortion campaign down though and so are able to garner the sympathies of newer homeowners who don’t know the history, and are all to ready to suck into the drama the railroad is perpetuating.
You try to for peace and in good faith offer them a portion of the lot in hopes it will appease the discord. Their response is to ramp up their tactics. The arrows are now flaming, your pets are found dead and mutilated in your yard, they dig a tunnel under the lot and kidnap your son, they have raped your daughter and have a sniper on their roof looking for any opportunity to pick off any member of your family and riddles your house at random times day and night, they put their kids out on a swing set in their back yard and fire off molatoff $#%&!@*tails at you from it hoping you will return fire so they can say you are trying to kill their children. They have made it known that they don’t just want the lot, they want you, your family and all your relatives dead.
Don’t you think that after years of relentless escalating targeting that is now threatening your very existence with no end in sight, that you would finally reach the end of your rope and begin to actually defend yourself and your family? Wouldn’t you make sure that they understand your not messing around and get the biggest and baddest weapons and expert training you could get to shut them down? How would you feel with all the bleeding heart new neighbors condemn you as the instigator when you know you are only defending yourself and that they would do no less if they had to live under the persecution you have?
There is only ONE set of facts in this situation and its not Isreal who is perpetuating the hate and discontent. They are defending what’s theirs. Either you stand with Isreal or… you are against her, in which case, I will pray for you cause you’re really gonna need it.
