Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

Of all the c**p that people put out there for stupid people to fall for, this is one of the more stupid. Look at that pink bit under the dome. That is the foam packing to protect the lens in shipping. some idiot forgot to remove it when the camera was installed. This camera is blind. Most cameras have facial recognition to aid in focusing on a moving face. They do not collect any data other than the recorded video on anybody. If you believe otherwise you are just too stupid to live. All that these cameras are used for is a visual deterrent for shoplifters, recording theft to prosecute shoplifters, and busting people for making false injury claims.
Maybe its to stop the “Muslims” you always fear monger about, can never be too safe especially when it comes to a conservative corporate entity…..Maybe we should give them billions more per year and blame the employees they force on welfare for it!
big brother is watching
They using it for when people are kicked out of Walmart; the camera system will alert security or manager when they return by facial recognition. We have this at our facilities. It’s a very nice software.
No i don’t work for walmart. I’m a facilities manager for a corp.
I work at Walmart and know that here are many instances of theft that the images are used for evidence and (at least twice in the one I work at) used to prove a false insurance claim (one for Workmans comp and another for a shopper claiming permanent disability).I would think the ones that you dont even think about in banks are just as (if not more
High tech ..
Bill Andrade this is more than likely the case because many judges in my area will issue a “no trespass” to people that are caught shoplifting and with Walmart being open 24 hours in most places, the loss prevention person on one shift may not recognize that person.
yet another reason never to shop there
