Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

Why would anyone that wasn’t a criminal menace “worry” about them?

I don’t worry I have a beard, wear a hat and sungl$#%&!@*es everytime I enter walmart.
Duh, I thought it’a push button to open the door….I pressed it 😀
One guy with a spray can could take care of THIS stupid little device.
plus a little face recognition software…. bada bing — bada boom
powered by the ether… what?? they are powered by electricity.. from the electric panel where the evil breaker panel is…. oooooooohhh. and the software is in a control box (nt the camera) with a recorder in the loss prevention office, and it alerts the LP people as to possible things to look at…. and if you do steal, they get a good image of the perp leaving the store. That’s what they are for Prosecution.
facial recognition software is nothing new, more retail outlets are using this to detect repeat shoplifter offenders. Smart move to keep cost down.
