Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

Banks have the same thing at each port as you cash your check.
what is a warrent ?
Buy from local mom and pop stores and you don’t have to be concerned that this giant corporate monster is filming you!
OK with me. Video cameras sometimes prevent crime. I, for one, don’t like crime.
Who cares if its true or not, if it is then I hope they catch the theives.
At eye level for whom?
Watches for people who have been caught shop lifting in the past and barred from the store?
Plus, if it helps them see a known shoplifter is in the store and to watch that person better, it will stop merchandise from walking out of the store….driving the costs up for everyone else. If this is really what it is, pricey or not, it will pay for itself quickly.
what a crock this could also just be a bosh VDN-498v03-21 normal security camera.
tI’ve never seen a PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera like this. I used to, years ago, operate these type of cameras in casinos. I understand the need for surveillance cameras for security, but they are not normally mounted on the wall at eye level. The only reason I can think this would be mounted there would be for facial recognition. But why would walmart need that?
