Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

Such hyperbole. Walmart had cameras at eye level in their entrance and exit doors already. The resolution and image quality was horrible and they are being replaced company wide with HD cameras. The facial recognition is no greater a privacy intrusion than Facebook’s auto tagging using similar software. That system helps their $#%&!@*et Protection Department in identifying known shoplifters and those who’ve been issued criminal tresp$#%&!@* notices which are company wide. Big brother might be watching but he’s not watching you from your local department store. That facial recognition thing is also in use at gambling casinos all over the country.
Will they be able to tell if I am just going in to browse? 😉
It is only at eye level for certain people, not everyone is 5’10”.
i saw this at our walmart @[100001187702410:2048:Ross Leonard] and i don’t like it!
These are good. If you are following the rules these cameras will be your friend.
Eye level is a matter of subjection. Not my eye level. If it is it is waaaaay above everyone elses eye level. Also, this article $#%&!@*umes Wal Mart can do somehting right. I have seen no evidence of that. Cameras are everywhere, get used to it. If you don’t like it just put your head down as you walk in. Or turn away….If you can’t figure out how to get around it then you voted for Obama and are a loser any way.
Have you seen the photos on that People of WalMart (.com) page? Come on. These pictures will be a cl$#%&!@*ic study of the human zoo.
Why is this a bad thing? Here is a way to stop profiling people who look suspisious and actually find known felons to monitor with technology. I want Walmart to match facial recognition up to purchases so the police get alerted when sex offenders buy duct tape and a shovel. That would be ideal. Walmart has the right to protect their their $#%&!@*ets. Maybe this technology can also detect the person who made this video still had a little coke left on his elongated pinky nail. 🙂 He should probably shop at Target now.
i wont shop there again
