Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

HOLY$#%&!@*!!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! First comment I read posted on her by a person with a brain. Isn’t it amazing how stupid people are!? Of coarse they are for catching thieves.
Rick Ripley exactly, so don’t go into any stores, gas stations, drive the freeway(traffic cams), go to a bar,or a casino….if you don’t want your photo taken.
Jeff Shimmons you don’t have to shop at any place that has cameras, or go to any places with cameras. But when you enter someone else’s house or someone else’s business YOU DONT GET TO CHOOSE, its their choice to use cameras not yours. The number one reason any business will always have cameras……wait for it….. Wait for it…drum roll please….. Insurance rates. If a theft ,robbery, or fire happens the first thing the insurer wants to see is the camera footage. If you don’t have any, they don’t pay for it.
Jeff Shimmons, hate to put a smart guy like you on the spot but…… Go ahead and post the part in the constitution that says “you have the right to not be video taped”(doesn’t have to say that exactly, I would be grateful for even something that even comes close to the subject) but don’t forget to post it right here for all these ” stupid ” people you are talking about. Now if video taping is protected as free speech (which it currently is,BTW), then the constitution actually states that you have the right to that form of freedom of speech.
I’m pretty sure when this calls people dumb, its definitely a case of the kettle calling the pot black(so to speak,of coarse).
I love how I throw one hypothetical out there and it starts a chain reaction of nonsense…. Look believe what you want it’s all good, I’m not her to convince you of anything…. You wanna believe a company like Walmart would invest in facial recognition technology, technology that a majority of banks don’t even employ yet, check cashing places don’t have, fuckin court houses don’t even have this tech yet…. But Walmart is going to spend the big bucks on it to save their precious equate name brand products?? Whatever floats your boat
And you’ve obviously never heard that stores like Walmart work what’s called acceptable in store and out of store loss into their annual budget… That is each store location comes up with their own figure to cover any losses they feel they may incur throughout the year from either product damage, returned products that are not resellable, and yes theft by either an employee or a customer… As long as the loss they incur doesn’t exceed the projected amount, your theory of them needing facial recognition technology is a pointless purchase, and a very large one at that….
You all are a bunch of idiots lol
It is their property, if you do not like it go elsewhere. It is truly that simple. This is America and the laws allow a business owner to do this, who are you to take that right away?
They are used to identify shoplifters that get out the door plain and simple. So we can identify them when they return to try to steal more stuff and hopefully they get caught.
