Socialism always starts as a “people’s movement,” with mindless and ignorant people being directed by elitist con men in the background, telling the foolish that by bringing down the “rich,” everyone will share in the abundance that socialism will bring. It is always a lie, and invariably almost all the people end up in poverty, with the exception of the top socialist leaders who live like kings. Fidel Castro is certainly one who has lived that life, and his protege, Hugo Chavez destroyed the Venezuelan economy pursuing the same socialist policies.
When the economy comes crashing down, it is necessary for the leadership to blame an outside source, and when Chavez was alive, he continually named the United States for all of the woes the country was suffering from. In fact, the oil rich country provides 9 percent of the U.S. gross oil imports, which must be a considerable sum of export income to the nation of 30 million people. As such, the U.S. provided a huge portion of the countries income, but Chavez resented that as well.
Venezuela has expropriated foreign and domestic businesses, which means that the people have little invested in the country and are becoming very unhappy with the leadership as it nosedives to complete economic ruin.

The first three sentences, I thought they were talking about the US.

Willful ignorance.
Pure and simple.

Sanders and supporters take note of what socialism really does.
There you go Mr. Wright, these comments show you how socialism creeps into a country. It is good that certain organizations, such as police, firemen, and etc… Have a basis in socialism, it’s easier to have a coordinated council to distribute the funding, and laying down the rules for these organizations, as long as the people dictate the funding and rules (by voting, through town meetings, and etc…). A voice in how these organizations conduct their business. What seems to be lacking here is that if you just turn everything over to the government, and rely on the government to be benevolent, and only concerned with the welfare of the people, you are living in a fantasy world, power corrupts. Even if you have a benevolent government now, there is no way to ensure it will always be so, especially, if they wield all the power.
As for using all the European countries that practice socialism. Look again, most of these countries are starting to faultier economically under their “cradle to grave” policies, and they are starting to move back to a free market societies. Free markets which help create enough revenue so that minimal amount of social programs can and will benefit those in true need, and pay for services best regulated by a government.
I will also agree that in a free market society that there have to be regulations, and policies in place to make sure that the people, resources and etc.. Are not taken advantage of. But to all you that believe socialism is the answer, remember it was a free market society that made our economy, and our lifestyle the envy of the world. A free market encourages invention, progress, competition, and opportunity for individuals to succeed.
Dan Maynard what type of socialism are you talking about?
