Socialism always starts as a “people’s movement,” with mindless and ignorant people being directed by elitist con men in the background, telling the foolish that by bringing down the “rich,” everyone will share in the abundance that socialism will bring. It is always a lie, and invariably almost all the people end up in poverty, with the exception of the top socialist leaders who live like kings. Fidel Castro is certainly one who has lived that life, and his protege, Hugo Chavez destroyed the Venezuelan economy pursuing the same socialist policies.
When the economy comes crashing down, it is necessary for the leadership to blame an outside source, and when Chavez was alive, he continually named the United States for all of the woes the country was suffering from. In fact, the oil rich country provides 9 percent of the U.S. gross oil imports, which must be a considerable sum of export income to the nation of 30 million people. As such, the U.S. provided a huge portion of the countries income, but Chavez resented that as well.
Venezuela has expropriated foreign and domestic businesses, which means that the people have little invested in the country and are becoming very unhappy with the leadership as it nosedives to complete economic ruin.

How would Saint Bernie avoid what has happened to every socialist country? Elizabeth Russ
No we won’t
But Bernie says it will work! SMH
I live in a constitutional republic. Which for last 200+ years has worked out great, when politics work for the people rather than themselves. If socialist programs are great they shouldn’t be hemorrhaging funds. Then again, every socialist program is fantastic, right up to the point where you include people. That’s when corruption starts.
“Did not save for a rainy day”…you know, I remember reading an article back in the late 90’s, people in the US were spending 108% of what they made annually….108%.
And now I can find online that the “average American” carries over $17,000 in credit card debt.
Sounds like we’re watching a preview of what’s to come here in the US if people don’t wise up.
Andrew Hammers the riots haven’t been for food
We are “defined” as a Republic, but I contend most would consider the US more of an oligarchy than anything else.
Like all countries, it depends on the leadership. Australia is a socialist democracy and this isn’t happening there. I’d say it’s the Trump supporters that are “mindless and ignorant” and add ‘racist’ to aa great deal of them as well.
A lot of people are brain dead & seem to live in a mindless state.
I agree to an extent. We have several socialist programs that work. Out roads, libraries, schools, fire departments, etc. It is all about where the money goes, not necessarily the program. We give billions away to corporations that make billions and pay little to no taxes. We have an over inflated military budget that goes mainly to companies that make things, not the actual people who fight/have fought.
The programs that people want are no different than some that we have. They are geared to boost the economy and help the middle class.
