The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
They are already doing away with all the constitution, it just gets in the way of liberal Nazis.
Let’s make a list of laws to repeal. There are many!!!
I can tell ya’ll this gentlemen in this picture ain’t from Utah. That’s all I got to say about that.
This is a good move. The 17th amendment basically made senators elected by popular vote, which started the degradation of the b country. See, we elected our house members to represent us. We also elect our local leaders to represent us locally. These local leaders use to appoint senators to office, and their job was to protect the states rights. So the house protected our personal rights, the senate protected ststes rights, and the president was responsible for protecting the country as a whole. If a bill started in the house, and it didn’t violate the states rights, the senate would pass it because it was a request of the people. If it didn’t violate or damage the constituion, the president would sign it. Now the house and senate are beholden to voters and fight each other for the same power, and the protection of the states has been lost.
I can’t support this we have enough stupidity going on. I’m not in favor of letting career politicians appoint$#%&!@*kissers to support their bull$#%&!@* Now TERM LIMITS is an idea I fully support!
Correct but they can start the process and then send it to the states
Term limits sounds like a good idea but it is not. It will create political machines controlled by lobbyists since they will have no limitations. We already have shadow governments, this would increase their power exponentially.
So your in favor of allowing career politicians the additional power to appoint$#%&!@*kissers who will be accountable to no one but those who appointed them?? Sorry that’s a major league failure.
This is absurd
I’m sure the special interest groups will stay out of the states right?
The 17th needs to be repealed. It was passed to further diminish states rights. Prior to its passing, the populace kf a state was represented by their Congressmen in Washington. The state, as an independant political entity was represented by the two Senators it sent to Washington. The 17th ammendment in effect took thatvrepresentation away from the states and gave it to the populace. Now, today our states (the political entity) have no representation in Washington which means they gave no way to protect themselve from a rabidvkut of control Federal Gov’t. That isvwhy , if we wish to ever again beca functioning republic, we need to be rid of the 17th. It protects nobody’s freedom.
While I agree with term limits, that does not solve the problem of the 17th ammendment. The 17th is an affront to a functioning federal republican form of government. To regain full control of our government we need to repeal it as soon as possible.
