The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Read a history of the 17th Amendment and why Utah has made such a bold call to action on the following page.
Well then you should be supporting his efforts, the 17th Amendment has already changed the Constitution.
Michael, it has already been altered (by the 17th Amendment).
So you’re ok with the messing around that has already been done by the 17th Amendment?
Ivan do you really believe that our founding fathers intended the will of 2 men to supersede the will of the people?
Exactly Kevin B McDonald
Both our senators here in California have been in office for 24 yrs, by being career politicians they can amass large amounts of money to which they don’t have to be accountable for, senator Feinstein is worth 43 million her husband is a real estate investor he is worth 1 billion, that’s with a b folks, how can they amass this kind of money unless their writing bills and passing laws for their friends they could give a c**p about us, they only care about getting re-elected, I say we can enforce our own term limits, vote out all the incumbent senators and house of reps, and do it in every election, they is how we the people fix the issue,
They all need to be fired! Such a disgrace! Leave things alone!!! Do your job and stop fighting for your own agendas that’s not why your in office!!!!
Until we stop SuperPACs and the flow of big money into our electorial process….elected officials will never be a government FOR THE PEOPLE. They will simply be elected by us but with he agenda if those who fund them.
Restating the question, does not make the premise true, it makes it a straw man argument. The founders intended the people to have a voice, and the states to have a voice. The states voice IS the people’s voice.
F**k you
I’m afraid I’m not aware of what’s been done. Please enlighten me…
